If you are considering getting a new puppy, it may be hard to decide between the many breeds available. One breed you should consider is getting an Aussiedoodle puppy. You will find some information below about this breed to help you understand why this would be a great dog for you.

Caring For

When you start searching for an Aussiedoodle you will find there are different coat types. This is because they are a mix between a poodle and an Australian Shepherd. You will find Aussiedoodles with a curly coat like a poodle or a straighter coat like the Australian Shepherd. The most common types found include flat, straight, wavy, and curly.

No matter what coat type your dog has, plan to brush them every couple of days. If their coat is curly you may need to brush them every day, or their hair can become matted. Take your dog to a groomer approximately every 2 weeks or as needed to have their coat trimmed. While at the groomer also have their nails trimmed and ears cleaned.

Talk to a veterinarian about proper dental care for your new puppy. Your veterinarian can teach you how to brush your dog's teeth, as well as how to clean their ears. The vet will give you suggestions on what to feed your new puppy, how much to feed them, and how often.

Providing Training

Both the poodle and the Australian Shepherd are intelligent dogs so your Aussiedoodle will be intelligent as well in most cases. Because of this, they can be trained very easily. Start at home teaching your dog how to sit, stay, etc. by using positive reinforcements, such as praise from you or a treat. You can start their training at home while they are still very young.

Take your dog to a trainer when they are old enough. Australian Shepherds are herding dogs so your Aussiedoodle may have this trait. If so and if you have small children, they may try to herd them. Hiring a trainer can help with this as your dog could knock down a child and hurt them unintentionally.

The dog trainer can teach commands like leave it, down, sit and stay, and more. You should be aware that most trainers require that your dog be vaccinated and that you provide proof of these vaccinations. Training not only helps with bad behavior but also gives your new dog social skills as they will spend time not only with other dogs but with their owners as well.

Talk with a veterinarian or the breeder to learn much more about Aussiedoodle puppies. Make an appointment to see this dog at a breeder or you may find one at a dog shelter that needs to be adopted.
